Just a quick note to thank you for your efforts Monday night at our library. The poets and listeners truly appreciated the chance to hear great poetry that you and others have created and to read their own poems in a supportive atmosphere! You are a great emcee and really helped people feel comfortable! You're also a great reader of your poems--your passion really came through! I hope we can do something like this again and that the teachers here from Masconomet will consider having you share with their students in the classroom! See you on April 25th at the Nevins Memorial Library in Methuen!

After the write-up about the reading in the newspaper, people are coming to me saying, "Oh, I wish I'd come to that!" Thank you tremendously for playing the MC that night. You did a great job of engaging everyone (who wanted to be engaged) and you put us all at ease. Talking about and reading your own work very much helped this nervous writer-reader share his stuff.
I look forward to participating in future readings that you lead, and I hope we'll get you back to New Castle Library in the future.

Hi everyone,
Here on the Seacoast we’ve been “piloting” a regional programming series of book discussion groups and poetry nights that have been really fun and going well. For the poetry nights, we’ve had a great time with Tony Marino (who many of you seek out in the conference vendor hall when you “need” a Lindt chocolate truffle to keep you going!) acting as emcee as well as sharing his own poetry and process. The audiences seem to enjoy him and he makes people feel very comfortable about reading their own poetry to a group.
With National Poetry Month here, and the recent interest at conferences and such in offering poetry programs year-round in libraries, I thought I’d pass along Tony’s information in case anyone would like to take advantage of his skills as a poet and emcee…

2005 Performer Showcase March 30, 2005 Canton Public Library, Canton, MA.
Tony Marino graciously drove to Pentucket Regional High School on Thursday (in the surprise! March snow) to join my creative writing class. He brought with him his cache of old poems from teaching years at Pentucket Middle School, a no-nonense, honest and enthusiatic approach and a wonderful energy that inspired many of my kids to share work for the first time. We had a poetry circle and talked about the process of writing, reading work out loud, and it was a captivating and moving day. We truly enjoyed it all immensely and I hope he will come back again one day soon!
